Crew Training

The crew is a key element that connects the player to the vehicle. Each crew member—Commander, Driver, Gunner, Loader, and Radio Operator—has their own crew efficiency, which always starts at 100%. When you improve a crew member's crew efficiency and train additional perks, they become more effective, which significantly improves the battle performance of the vehicle.

Crew Efficiency

Crew efficiency is a parameter that reflects how much the crew affects the vehicle's combat performance. By default, it is set to 100% for all crew members. This value can be increased through specific perks, consumables, and equipment, and the Commander's bonus is automatically applied to all crew members if the Commander is 100% efficient.

Crew efficiency can be reduced if the crew is not trained for the vehicle they are assigned to, or if they are retrained with a penalty to efficiency.

Crew Perks

Every crew member that is trained for their vehicle can start training perks that improve certain vehicle characteristics and provide an advantage in battle.

There are both group and individual perks. Group perks are available for all crew members, while individual perks are only for certain qualifications. If a crew member has several qualifications, they can train all perks available for each one.

Sixth Sense: A Special Commander Feature

Note that all Commanders have a special feature that allows them to identify whether their vehicle has been spotted by the enemy.

The maximum number of perks a crew member can train for their major qualification is six (including zero perks). You can choose from eight individual (qualification-specific) perks and three group ones.

Crew members with additional qualifications can train three bonus perks alongside their major qualification perks. Bonus perks do not require Crew XP, but they are trained twice as slowly as major qualification perks.

Example:

The Commander of your T57 Heavy Tank has Radio Operator as their additional qualification. For every two fully trained perks from their major qualification (Commander), they will passively train one Radio Operator individual (non-group) perk chosen by you. In total, they can train up to three Radio Operator perks.

If two or more crew members share the same major qualification (for example, in some large vehicles with big guns that have multiple Loaders), the effect of perks is calculated based on their average training level. For a perk to have 100% efficiency, every crew member must have the same individual (qualification-specific) perk trained to 100%.

Example:

One of the Loaders in your Jagdpanzer E 100 has Intuition trained to 100%, and the other one has Perfect Charge trained to 100%. The efficiency of each perk will be limited to 50% in each case.

The main features of perks are as follows:

  • The perk efficiency value determines the effectiveness of learned perks and is set to 100% by default.
    • Retraining operations performed for free or for credits will reduce the perk efficiency value below 100%, negatively impacting the effectiveness of all learned perks. Perk efficiency of 50% means learned perks are only half as effective.
    • The reduced value can be linearly increased with Crew XP to a maximum of 100,000. Thus, each 1% perk efficiency increase is equal to collecting 1,000 Crew XP.
  • Perks come into effect when trained to at least 1%. Their effectiveness grows with further training.
  • Some perks have a situational effect that is triggered in certain battle conditions, while others have a permanent effect that remains active throughout the battle.
  • For group perks, the average training level among all crew members is applied.
  • Each percentage point above 100% crew efficiency amplifies the effect of all perks (except for Brothers in Arms).

Perk Training

Perk training starts at 0% and increases by gaining Crew XP.

A zero perk is a special type of perk that is available to a crew member by default. It is fully trained and does not require any experience. Crew members with one or several zero perks can be acquired as a reward or during events such as Holiday Ops. Zero perks significantly reduce the amount of experience needed for further crew training.

Perk training can be accelerated at any time. Here are several ways to do this:

Training Acceleration for Free XP

Here's how to accelerate perk training for Free XP:

  1. Select a vehicle in your Garage and click a crew member's portrait.
  2. In the crew member's Profile click Accelerate Training.
  3. Select Free Experience among the available options and set the amount of XP you want to spend to accelerate the current perk training.
  4. Click Study.

You can also go to to training acceleration right from the Garage: click (Crew Management) and select Accelerate training.

Training Acceleration on Elite Vehicles

Accelerated Training is available in all Elite vehicles and can be activated in your Garage.

  1. Select the vehicle you want to accelerate crew training in.
  2. Click  (Accelerated Crew Training) to the left of the crew panel. All Combat XP earned will be received by the least trained crew member.

Mentoring License

The Mentoring License allows you to transfer experience from one crew member to another of the same nation. When used, the mentor crew member is removed, and their XP is fully transferred to the chosen recipient.

Here's how to accelerate perk training through the Mentoring License:

  1. Go to the Quick Training screen. Select the mentee who will receive experience in the crew members panel on the left.
  2. Click MENTORING LICENSE in the upper right part of the screen.
  3. Hover over one of the suggested mentors and click SELECT to transfer experience from them.
  4. To complete the operation, enter the amount of experience that will be transferred in the confirmation window.

Perk Reset

You can also reset a crew member's existing perks at any time by clicking the Reset button. The first reset for any crew member is free. For subsequent resets, you can choose one of the following options:

  • Rapid Courses: free of charge, but the total perk experience is reduced by 20%.
  • Regimental School: costs 20,000, but the total perk experience is reduced by 10%.
  • Tank Academy: costs 100,000, but the total perk experience remains unchanged.
  • Retraining: requires a Retraining Order and does not change the total perk experience.

Post-Progression

Crew members that have six major qualification perks fully trained continue to accumulate Crew XP. For every 100,000 XP earned in the Post-Progression, you will receive a Universal Guide that can be used to train other crews.

Crew Books

Crew Books allow you to significantly accelerate crew training by adding a certain amount of XP to one or all crew members.

Crew Books differ by type and value: The higher the value, the more XP a crew member will receive when the Crew Book is studied. There are seven types of Crew Books that differ in their acquisition method and conditions of use.
