Recon Mission: Explore New Maps and Earn Rewards!

Greetings, Commanders!

Exploring new maps is always very exciting. Fresh locations allow you to take a different look at the gameplay of various vehicles and experience battles in the most unusual corners of the world. But creating new maps for World of Tanks is a long and complex process, and we need your help to make them as good as they can be.

Update 1.13 will introduce a new mode to World of Tanks—Recon Mission. This experimental mode will be launched in separate Stages, with the first Stage kicking off on July 5. Recon Mission will become an open collaboration platform where we’ll work together with you to improve and refine new maps that may be added to Random Battles in the future. Let’s see how it works.

Recon Mission Stage 1

July 5, 18:00 UTC+8 through July 16, 00:00 UTC+8 (HK server only)
Ceasefire: 00:01 to 17:59 UTC+8 daily

3 Stages, 9 New Maps

To enter the mode, select Recon Mission via the mode selector in your Garage and click the Battle! button.

This summer, we will launch three Recon Mission Stages, each lasting 10 days. In each Stage, you can explore 3 new maps in the late stages of development. After playing 20 battles in Recon Mission, you’ll be able to vote for the map you like the most and the least in each Stage.

You can leave detailed feedback about each map in the special questionnaire shown below, and this will greatly help us improve and finalize these locales. Before you can share your opinions in the questionnaire about a specific map, you’ll need to play at least 6 battles on the locale. You can only give feedback about the maps of the current Stage, but you’ll have the opportunity to change your mind and share a different opinion in the questionnaire before the end of each Stage.

Your Feedback Is Crucial!

All maps in Recon Mission are pre-release prototypes designed for Random Battles. The gameplay experience on these maps is almost finalized, but the visuals may undergo further changes before release. Your feedback and the statistics we obtain will help us understand what balance adjustments and other final refinements are needed. The maps that are the most popular with the community will be prioritized for addition to the Random Battles map pool in future updates. In the widget below, you can see a short description of the first three maps available in the first Stage. The remaining maps will be announced later, so stay tuned!

The city ruins are perfectly suited for heavy tanks, while two levels of terrain here allow for dynamic encounters.

The fortress and outpost on the hill are rather risky to get to, but a team that captures this area can practically control the entire map.

This is an open area that allows for maneuvering and long-range shots. It is suitable for light-armored vehicles, as well as for vehicles with good elevation/depression angles.

The trenches along the fields allow for switching directions between the castle and the city.

The presidio over the river stretches along the entire flank, which allows heavy tanks to advance practically up to the enemy base. Besides this, its structure allows for unexpected flanking maneuvers.

The river bed and the mining area in the center are rather dangerous. Light tanks can spot enemy vehicles from here.

There is a tunnel under the takeoff strip connecting the map flanks.

The mountain terrain allows for approach from all directions. A team that captures the mountain can see the entire map and fire at enemy vehicles far away. This area is best suited for medium tanks, as well vehicles featuring good elevation/depression angles and a sturdy turret.

Destroyed hangars provide good cover positions for heavily armored vehicles protecting them from both enemy artillery and flanking attacks.

The fallen zeppelin in the map center is a good position for spotting enemy maneuvers and keeping track of them during the entire battle.

The territory behind the railway is perfect for maneuverable vehicles, as well as for vehicles with thick turrets and good elevation/depression angles. The enemy SPGs can cover this area with their shots, so make sure to keep moving.

Vehicles at these sniping positions can prepare a warm welcome for enemy vehicles approaching the bases. They can also prevent fast vehicles from rushing through the center of the map.

These side tracks will help the defenders retreat safely from the hangars. At the same time, the attacking side can push enemy snipers from here.

General Rules and Matchmaking

  • Battles in Recon Mission will follow the rules of Standard Battles with several changes.
  • Battles will take place in Tier VIII–X vehicles.
  • Personal and clan missions will not be available, but you can complete other battle missions, including Daily Missions.
  • The battle economy will be the same as in Random Battles.
  • You will be able to earn bonds, progressive customization decals, Mastery Badges, and Marks of Excellence.
  • The statistics of all Recon Mission battles will be counted in the statistics of Random Battles. Session statistics will not include Recon Mission battles.

You will be able to earn Battle Pass Points in the following ways:

Position in the Post-Battle Ranking  Victory   Defeat/Draw
Top 3 by XP earned
Top 10 by XP earned

Recon Mission will feature single- and multi-tier battles. For multi-tier battles, the matchmaker will assemble battles so that there are more lower-tier vehicles than higher-tier ones. For example, in two-tier battles, the number of Tier VIII vehicles will be greater than that of Tier IX tanks, or the number of Tier IX vehicles will be greater than that of Tier X tanks.

Progression System and Rewards

Each Recon Mission Stage will have a separate progression system, consisting of 50 battles and its own set of rewards. After playing a certain number of battles, you will receive in-game goodies such as a cool all-season camo, Personal Reserves, and other prizes. After completing a series of 50 battles, you will also earn a special medal.

10 3 Personal Reserves: +300% to Crew XP for 1 hour
15 3 Personal Reserves: +300% to Free XP for 1 hour

Each Stage will feature a unique medal and a new camo that you can apply to any vehicle in your Garage.
