The  VIII M-IV-Y  is one of the 7 vehicle designs proposed by the H.L. Yoh Company. This was in June 1953 when the development of the T95 series started. It was planned to be an all-American vehicle with a cast hull and turret equipped with a 105 mm gun, four crew members, and a total weight of 47 tons.

The tank's most distinctive feature was its oscillating turret surrounded with armor to reduce the possibility of damage or malfunction.

Despite its realistic features, the plan was discontinued at the design stage and was not prototyped.

How does the tank fare in World of Tanks? Let's have a look!

Vehicle Overview

As in the historical version, World of Tanks also has a "reserve track" function. When an ordinary armored vehicle's track's get destroyed, it becomes immobile. And players need to wait for the repair duration to be over before they can move again.

The "Reserve Track" mechanism

With its "reserve track", the M-IV-Y can continue to move even if its track is destroyed.

Players in a vehicle with the "reserve track" mechanism can continue moving despite having a damaged track. But that does not mean they are completely unstoppable.

To successfully track a M-IV-Y, you will need to damage both the main and spare track. You can find the spare track mounted on the rear of the hull. Damaging both tracks at once is a possibility, but a rare one.

If you are commanding a M-IV-Y running on a spare track, your movement speed will be slowed, but it still gives you an opportunity to escape.

Defence

Let's now talk about the M-IV-Y's defences. The first thing to be careful about is its large oscillating turret that makes it an easy target. Also, the commander's cupola on the upper part of the turret can be easily penetrated with a force of about 135 mm. A little consolation comes from the spaced armor at the base of the turret with a thickness of 280mm or more.

Its hull, like most other vehicles, are weak in the front. Due to its curved front, side scraping will not improve its defences.

Gameplay Tips

The M-IV-Y's greatest strength is definitely not in its defence. Close combat is a disadvantage, so try maintaining a decent distance from enemies, but not so much that it takes on a sniper role.

After breaking through the front line around mid-battle, the "reserve track" system will show its worth.

Until then, support your allies at mid distance, be aware of your surroundings, and take risks according to the amount of HP you have.

Strengths:

  • Can avoid being immobilised with reserve track mechanism
  • Excellent turret ring armor
  • Good alpha damage
  • Good elevation angles
  • Versatile performance

Weaknesses:

  • Top of turret and commander's cupola
  • Dispersion area while moving or turning is rather large
  • Bad dispersion stats
  • Mobility is not fantastic

Enemies will target the commander's cupola. To make the commander's job more bearable, Improved Hardening will give additional HP so the vehicle could withstand more shots. If you are great at dodging shots, skip the Improved Hardening and install equipment that will improve loading time, turning speed, or dispersion stats.

The Vertical Stabilizer will reduce issues with dispersion and improve aiming.

Adding a Turbocharger boosts acceleration and reverse speed. Combined with the Vertical Stabilizer, the vehicle can now execute surprise attacks and exit strategies more smoothly.

It is essential to let your commander learn "Sixth Sense".

Then, get "Repair" which is a common skill for all crew members. Although the M-IV-Y has a reserve track function, its movement speed decreases when the main track is destroyed. Having "Repair" will reduce the time required to get your vehicle back in top shape.

For the second perk/skill, choose to limit the dispersion and increase shot accuracy. Have your gunner learn "Rapid Fire", and your driver learn "Smooth Driving". Also, let your loader learn "Intuition" to speed up the process of switching between bullet types - which gives you more time to handle opponents with lighter armor.
