ANZPL Season 5 is ready for action and starting this week, so it's time to learn about what changes has happened in the off-season, to prepare your fantasy team roster, and to get ready for some more intense tank action to complete your Fridays!
What’s New?
Bo9 Finals
The Grand Finals are now a ‘Best of 9’ format, meaning the teams who earn their right to play on stage, live from Fortress Melbourne, will need to take five victories and spread their diversity across another map. We can't wait to see more blockbusters happen live on stage!
More Variety
Teams can now no longer pick the same map as tiebreaker for the week. This means that should a tiebreaker occur, it will always be on a new map! Teams will have to be extra prepared this season, especially since the maps will be unknown until mere hours before the match!
Siegfried Line
Mines has been substituted out this season for Siegfried Line. With an open field perfect for scouting and a city with plenty of flanking avenues, it’s sure to be an interesting change in the meta. Teams will have to watch out for flanking mediums on the edges of the map that could appear at any time!
1.18
With the new update arriving near the start of the season, it’s highly likely we’ll see new tactics involving the new Italian Tier X TD (the Minotauro), and AMX M4 54, with the Kranvagn taking a breather after being a go-to pick for many seasons. Additionally, Murovanka will be heavily reworked on the 1-2 line, so teams will have to familiarise themselves with new positions in order to get the most out of the map.
Both Murovanka and the Minotauro will be unavailable for teams during the week of their release, to give them time to adapt to the meta shift.
New and Returning Faces
With our first player trade, Trax heads over to the Adelaide Action X, while for Saxon, he has joined the re-branded Christchurch Conquerors - we thought it appropriate to bring back the Melbourne name for the Melbourne squad, so we welcome the mighty ducks, the Melbourne Matildas, back into ANZPL! Adding Dark to their roster, the Matildas are certainly shaping up to be a formidable opponent.
Rising up from the ANZBL, the Cairns Comets will be joining the Premier League, with a cast of familiar faces from previous ANZPL and ANZBL seasons. We also bid a fond farewell to the Brisbane Bulldogs and thank them for the epic matches they showcased. The Comets will be looking to upset the usual teams with an all-new roster consisting of Pp_Power, AthrunZulla, DarkKnight, Mendicant_Bias, Saffe, StiFe_Fil and AVP! Could their tactics surprise the ANZPL regulars?
Also moving up from the B League is Gloster to bolster Action X’s roster, along with returning ANZPL superstar Speed!
Their rivals, the Panthers however have managed to acquire both MadHouse and Bailes for an all-star lineup, meaning that the games are only going to get closer.
Both of our grand finalists from the previous season, the North Sydney Sentinels and South Sydney Skorpions have kept their teams the same this season. This surely can only fan the flames of rivalry even more!
Fantasy League
Of course, everyone's favourite big brain league is back - Fantasy League returns once again, where the best over the competition can take home the lion's share in prizing!
