During World War 2, then-Lt. Col. Creighton Abrams led his unit to victory against German forces that had superior firepower and armour, earning the Distinguished Service Cross twice. He later went on to become a General and Chief of Staff in the United States Armed Forces.

Fun Fact: The main battle tank of the United States Armed Forces, the M1 Abrams, is named after General Abrams.
