The Waffenträger: Legacy - KV-4 KTTS & FV4201 Chieftain Prototype

Commanders,

The Waffenträger: Legacy is in full swing with loads of valuable rewards. But the most coveted rewards are the rare Tier VIII and IX Premium vehicles, including the brand-new FV4201 Chieftain Proto and KV-4 KTTS.

This time, we are going to dig down into these two brand-new vehicles! Find out about their characteristics and strategies below.

FV4201 Chieftain Proto

The  IX FV4201 Chieftain Proto  is a multi-role Tier IX Premium British heavy tank with an incredibly tough turret and decent frontal armor, great gun depression angles of –10 degrees, and a respectable 400 HP of damage per shot. Like its brother in arms sitting at Tier X, this heavy boasts an overall good mix of characteristics, allowing it to dominate in positional battles or win one-on-one duels. Depending on the situation in battle, it can lead the attack and carry the team, absorbing enemy shells, or it can perform as a powerful support vehicle, assisting medium tanks.

This vehicle is an early prototype of its famous—and similarly named—Tier X counterpart, but it should be kept in mind that this vehicle is one tier lower, meaning that its characteristics are a bit more modest. But some things remain unchanged—its playstyle and role in battle. The FV4201 Chieftain Prototype is a versatile heavy tank that plays somewhere between a heavy and medium. It can engage in positional combat using a very strong turret thanks to its comfortable gun depression angles.

How To Play the FV4201 Chieftain Proto

Strong frontal turret armor

Good depression/elevation angles

High penetration with standard shells

Low DPM

Poor dispersion

Long aim time

 Firepower

The 120 mm gun has its pros and cons, but its standard APCR and special APCR shells are very reliable with excellent 262 mm and 310 mm penetration, respectively. With -10 degrees of gun depression and 59 rounds to draw upon, it is flexible and can continue to make an impact long into the battle. Although its 2,000 DPM is not that high for its class and tier, its 400/400/515 damage per shot will certainly create some casualties. It is worth accounting for poorer dispersion and aim time when fighting long-range or trying snapshots, but it has strong shell velocity that can help in these situations.

 Survivability

The tank's main defense of its acceptable 1,800 HP is its strong 350/110/35 mm turret. The hull armor is thin, but the front is well-angled and does a good job of deflecting incoming shots. Comparatively, the lower plate is very weak, and the prominent cupola and thin turret roof are weakspots in need of careful protection. The 390 m view range is nothing special, but it does offer some additional survivability.

 Mobility

With a 40 km/h top speed, its mobility is on par with similar vehicles, and thanks to decent terrain resistance, it can reach this speed on rougher surfaces. This is useful for exploiting the vehicle's mobility and being present where it is needed.

KV-4 KTTS

The  VIII KV-4 KTTS  is a Tier VIII Premium Soviet tank destroyer. A rear-mounted turret and its similarity to the KV-4 heavy tank makes up this vehicle's gameplay. Low maneuverability and mediocre mobility are counterbalanced by a well-sloped frontal armor, so hitting it will not be easy. The KV-4 KTTS is armed with a 107 mm high-penetrating gun that causes 360 HP of damage per shot and has a reload time of under nine seconds. With its rear-mounted turret and 90-degree gun traverse limits (45 degrees to either side), it can successfully use side-scraping tactics at the most effective angles from both cover and open terrain.

Proper use of the vehicle allows for positional combat using its very strong side armor, deflecting enemy attacks.

How To Play the KV-4 KTTS

Strong side armor

Wide gun traverse angles

Excellent penetration

Bad concealment

Low damage per shot

Poor gun depression/elevation angles

 Firepower

The rear-mounted 107 mm gun's 2,571 DPM is the 9th highest of Tier VIII tank destroyers. It can deal 360/360/420 damage per shot with 227/289/62 mm of penetration, giving it a threatening if not spectacular offensive attack. Because of the gun's position, it cannot be lowered further than 5 degrees, but it does have an excellent 90 degree firing arc. This is useful for picking less mobile or closer targets to avoid relying on the gun's unexceptional accuracy, while the 90 shell capacity encourages blind firing and doesn't punish missed shots.

 Survivability

Only five Tier VIII tank destroyers have higher HP than the KV-4 KTTS' admirable 1,400 HP, yet its 350 m view range is among the worst of its peers. While the small turret atop the strong superstructure looks like another weakness, it is actually quite well-armored. The hull's thickest section is 200 mm strong, while the frontal armor is generally reliable and the gun mantlet has 250 mm plates. The vehicle's most vulnerable spots include the sides of the turret, the roof, and the curved section of the front armor plate.

 Mobility

Unsurprisingly, given its size and thick armor, the vehicle's top speed is only 35 km/h and its traverse speed is also slow at 24 degrees a second. The wide gun arc compensates for this, but positioning should always be a careful consideration while using this destroyer.
